   The following diary entry is shared to provide insight into my personal use of cannabis to alleviate a series of medical and health issues, inclusive of insomnia and loss of appetite.

   There was a time—during and before Covid where Blue Dream was my favorite bud—my go to bud. But just around legalization Blue Dream seemed to disappear. And when it did appear it was never the same. Our own UpperCut competition featured a cut of Blue Dream which was left me yearning for something else. White Labs Thailand, one of the great growers of our community, sent me a sample of Blue Dream a few months ago and that review is available in our pages—but it reminded me too much of the UpperCut Blue Dream for satisfaction. Lucky for me, and for all of Thailand, their latest iteration of Blue Dream is completely different and the closest to that memory of Blue Dream that I hold so dear. This Blue Dream comes through with a creamy sweet blue berry aroma, sweet and sour citrus, a touch of funk and a woodsy pine. The flavor is a super smooth and gentle sweet creamy, powdery berry taste, with a secondary woodsy note. Very tasty.

   The high starts euphoric, engaged, excited (part of the excitement could be due to my satisfaction with the bud itself after years of searching for quality Blue Dream). The bud then takes a mellow and chill turn—relaxing and contemplative, satisfied, content and accepting of the state of being. Never drowsy or overwhelming.

   If you have fond memories of Blue Dream—or have been disappointed in the last few years with the Blue Dream you have come across—I highly recommend you get your hands on this bud. It is the best Blue Dream out there—with great flavors, aromas and an enjoyable high. I still think that the cut itself, while highly enjoyable, is maximized to its potential but falls a level below White Lab’s regular work, which is amongst the best in Thailand. But, it is the best Blue Dream available—and the only one out there that I have truly fully enjoyed.

   BLUE DREAM

   White Labs Thailand have some of the most beautiful and photogenic Thai-grown flower I have come across. Just a quick skim through their Instagram highlights will yield buds the full spectrum of the rainbow, all complete with precise trims and captured beautifully in high definition videos and pictures. Stumbling onto a page like this is a Bud Hunters dream and after a mouthwatering scroll I was set on securing some of this flower to test if it was truly as good as it looked. 

   A short time later and 10 lovingly packaged grams of various premium flower strains arrived on my doorstep. Without hesitation I dived straight into an old school classic; BLUE DREAM (blueberry x haze).

   VISUALS:
   A darker, pastel green bud with a classically hazey structure. The flower features frequent, scattered orange pistils and a sugar granule-like trichome dusting. Upon the grind the flower seems to shed some of its darker colour and looks even more traditionally hazy  (bonus points for the fluffiness of the grind too).

   The bud itself sports a top-tier trim and you can tell from just a quick glance that this is some real fresh and cared for flower; Trichomes are intact and the buds are light and fluffy with zero cosmetic damage from vac-seal and transit.

   NOSE:
   The bag-smell starts with an instant and nostalgic hit of blueberry, citrus and that iconic sweet and sickly haze smell. There are notes of cream and vanilla on the back-end alongside some faint hints of pine.
   Breaking into a nug releases further notes of pine and zesty lemon, the latter of which jumps forward alongside a sharp burst of haze upon the grind. It’s a classically hazey and very nostalgic nose that takes me back to weekend trips to the Netherlands in my early teens throughout the early 2010’s.

   FLAVOUR:
   The nostalgia continues on the dry-toke with zesty lemon, sweet berry and pine dominating the profile. The sweet haze terp sits nicely at the back gluing everything together. Upon lighting up you are met with a real fruit cocktail of flavours; blueberry, clementine and lemon notes are sweetened further by sweet, creamy haze notes. The expected sourness/zest  of the fruit and haze is rounded off with a vanilla-like creaminess which neutralises any sharpness in the flavour. Despite this it is still very traditionally hazy but tastes more thoughtful, balanced and “elevated” than the generic BLUE DREAM you may have found 10 odd years ago. It is a real smooth and juicy smoke with the flavours lasting to the very last toke.

   HIGH:
   A relaxing yet light and lucid high that feels traditionally hazey in all aspects. Don’t get me wrong though, this BLUE DREAM does pack a punch. Whilst considered a great entry level strain, White Labs clearly know what they are doing and have produced a superior flower to those I have found in the UK or Europe. This aint no Amsterdam mids by any means.

   ASH:
   Whilst slightly salt and peppery at points, this flower smokes smooth and even with no need to relight. The flavour is full on, hinting at full combustion of the plant and tastes real clean.

   VERDICT:
   Oozing nostalgia and classic flavour with every toke, White Labs BLUE DREAM restores my faith in what could be considered a bit of a “has been” strain. White Labs have provided hard evidence that old school flavours can compete with new school genetics when cultivated with love and care.
