White Labs have become somewhat of a staple for BUDHUNTER. Much like some other farms I have revisited multiple times, I think they are producing some of the best flower in Thailand – high quality flower and flavour profiles that span almost the full spectrum of Terpene capability. Having given positive reviews of their hyped, candy-leaning strains, their more hazey classics as well as their underground and old-skool, more diesely buds – it was time to find something different. After reviewing much of their stock, this is a tall order – even for such a versatile and dynamic farm. At least this is what I thought until I found DELTA DIAMONDS.
VISUALS:
DELTA DIAMONDS comes looking like candy straight from Willy Wonka. Famous for its unique, diamond shaped buds (which are on full display here) this is an absolutely insane looking bud. Whilst not carrying many traditional aesthetics, the striking rainbow colour palette of deep greens, pinks and dominating purples, paired with the peculiarly organised and precise clusters of neat, orange pistils (which erupt from the peaks of each diamond like bud formation) make this an incredibly photogenic flower. It’s a strikingly light and fluffy bud, eliciting a fox-tail like structure and giving it a “Everlasting Gobstopper” kind of look.
Once again, this flower arrived in perfect condition with trichome heads proudly on display and producing a fluffy appearance. You would never guess this flower was shipped half way across the country.
NOSE:
The bag-smell on DELTA DIAMONDS, honestly, is something else. Having only come across a similar profile once before in Blanco by Lemonade, it’s a warm and welcoming experience. Contrasting with its candy-like appearance, an intense, earthy and musky diesel-like gas overpowers notes of burnt rubber and plastic, bitter lemon zest and cream – all of which simply add dynamic and shape to the dominating fuel. A menthol-like crispness adds further refinement upon breaking into a nug – The existing notes of petrol, bitter lemon, pine and menthol further ooze from the flower and the grind amplifies this even more, resulting in some seriously heavy diesel-esque dankness. This bud is LOUD.
FLAVOUR:
The dry-toke on DELTA DIAMONDS displays some citrus zestiness alongside a thick, spiced gas that carries notes of pepper, menthol and a hint of aniseed. There’s a welcome sweetness that further refines the gas alongside a hint of the reoccuring pine, creating a profile that nicely compliments the nose.
Upon sparking up I am met with a woody fuel and a splash of lemon up front. It’s earthy and musky with a dankness that’s appropriate for the scent. Notes of pine and a faint hint of liquorice make up the back-end. It comes off a tad one note with the woody gas largely dominating, but it admittedly holds that note and sings, yielding a strong and kushy full mouth flavour with a reasonable amount of fuel to it.
HIGH:
The high is calming and induces a moderate and comfortable couch-lock complete with “weed blanket”. It feels heavy in the best of ways, allowing the eyes to glaze over and the mind to wander, should the user allow it. It feels perfect for a lazy Sunday in that whilst it’s heavily Indica leaning, an experienced smoker should be able to enjoy the relaxing benefits of this smoke without succumbing to its somewhat sedative effects. DELTA DIAMONDS is not a particularly social flower, which is not a bad thing as it’s so damn comfortable – the kind of high where you want to get cosy and just enjoy the vibe of it. Best suited for passive activities such as watching movies, listening to music or reading – for these reasons I highly recommend this flower to experienced users who may be struggling with stress or simply need to unwind.
ASH:
The ash on DELTA DIAMONDS comes clean, producing white ash and full flower combustion. Whilst I would not say this flower meets the combustion of White Labs own Ice Bath or Swiss Watch, it falls comfortably into the same ballpark as their Sour Strawberry.
The flower burns consistently and even with no issue or reason to relight, making for an incredibly enjoyable smoke.
VERDICT:
DELTA DIAMONDS is an interesting flower that has a classic, old-skool, gassy vibe to it which some of the OG’s are really going to appreciate. Paired with its unique scent and equally unique, almost novelty, appearance this is certainly a bud that every flower connoisseur should scope out at least once – It’s another flower that holds all the top-tier qualities that White Labs are known for and, whilst it may not have as wide appeal as their Tea Time, Ice Bath or Swiss Watch, it makes for a great alternative for someone who isn’t a fan of sweeter terps or possibly looking for something a bit more niche.
